What does the shirt represent and why did you decide to make the shirt? As a kid growing up in the 70's and early 80's the school and media environment that surrounded me did not have the visibility of Latinos y Latinas that we see today. A lot of my influences and impressions came from whatever I saw on TV, or from magazines-- which meant that popular culture hardly held an imprint of 'La Cultura' or evidence of any mixture of cultures. The words on my shirt are representative of the late 1980's and the 90's, when for me, the world slowly began changing for the good. Latina FreeStyle t-shirt offers the added presence of 'mi barrio'.
